Jarrod Baxter

Jarrod Baxter traveled a lot growing up but calls Albuquerque, New Mexico his hometown. He attended and graduated from Highland High School from 1994-1997 and played full-back for the Hornets.

After graduating he attended the University of New Mexico from 1997-2001. He earned a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Criminology. He continued his football career there as well playing full-back for the Lobos. Baxter rushed for 907 yards and scored 11 touchdowns his senior season, and leaves UNM as the Lobos' 7th all-time leading rusher with 2,090 career rushing yards. He is the 10th Lobo player to rush for more than 2,000 yards in a career. Baxter was a two-time team captain, and was voted team MVP in 2001

In 2002, Baxter was drafted in the fifth round of the Texans inaugural draft. He was selected by the expansion Houston Texans with the first pick (136th overall) in the fifth round on day two of the NFL Draft.  He played full-back for the Texans from 2002-2005. He then played for the Arizona Cardinals for the 2005-2006 season.

Baxter’s coaching career started in 2009 when he became the head football coach for West Briar Middle School. He served there from 2009-2012. From June of 2012- present he has been an assistant Head Football (Offensive Coordinator and Offensive Line Coach) and assistant wrestling coach at Westside High School in Houston, TX. Other roles and responsibilities have included: assist in the overall administration of the football program, Co-Offensive Coordinator, Assistant Strength Coordinator -Sports Nutrition, develop all Offensive Linemen, follow an academic plan for all position players, counsel players on issues related to GPA and college preparation, assist in fundraising coordination/implementation, Junior High Liaison.
